How to use CALT resources

    CALT Web Site:

The navigation bar at the top of all CALT Web pages allows you to move easily around the CALT Web site. The links in the navigation bar represent major topics. When you arrive at a topic page you will see various subtopic links at the top of the page. Clicking these will take you down the page to the location of the subtopic where a list of relevant Web sites is displayed.

The CALT home page  has a link to a search engine. Just enter some keywords and click the submit button and the engine will search the CALT site for any occurrence of your keywords and then display a list of CALT pages that contain any of the keywords.

The CALT home page also has a link to the CALT directory that contains a hyperlink list of all the CALT pages including the subtopics list for each page.

    CALT Computer Resources

All of  CALT’s computer hardware and software are available for faculty use in Schwartz, Room 104A. Hours of operation depend upon availability of staff. It is best to call the CALT office at x2582 to set up a time for you to use the computer resources. To see what is available click the CALT Resources link on the navigation bar and you will find a complete listing of CALT hardware and software. Many items on the resource list have links that will take you to Web sites, which contain detailed information about the software or hardware item.

You can explore the capability of these computer resources in a variety of ways:

1.  CALT staff will give you a brief introduction to the software/hardware. Then you can use the manuals, tutorials, and examples provided by the manufacturer to learn more about the capabilities of the program . Quite often it is not necessary to learn an entire program in order to accomplish a specific task.
2.  For some of the software there are commercial book/CD-ROM training materials available to help you learn how to use that part of the software needed for your application.
3.  If there are a sufficient number of faculty that are interested in a particular piece of software or hardware, then standard workshops will be developed and offered on that particular item.
