CSLI Minutes from Meeting Friday, Sept. 25, 2009 at 2 p.m. in Careers 129

Recent club events: Sept 22, Adel, Remi, Jeanki and John C. attended a speech offered by the ambassador from Mexico.  All commented on the good view from the World Trade Tower in Baltimore.  Some comments were made about the various points raised by the ambassador such as the problem with drug trafficking and the role of US gun sales.  This event was followed by a dinner at the Numero Uno restaurant at the Inner Harbor.

Recruitment:  There was a conversation about methods to recruit other students into the club.  Some of this involved using advertisement, including the use of the Campus Current newspaper.  Further inquiry into the cost and regularity of publishing of this paper was needed, with some students volunteering.  There was also some reflection on the possibility of using a banner in the cafeteria.  Getting a news article about upcoming events or past events was also mentioned.  The club looked at flyers on various bulletin boards to determine what made some stand out.  There was some discussion as to what to put on the flyer and ad – events, “are you interested in politics,” etc.  There was some mention about whether other professors would give extra credit for club events in the same spirit as Dr. Nataf – if a written work was turned in.

Online Presence: There was an examination of the student life calendar on myaacc.  This calendar includes meeting dates for clubs.  Again, further inquiry into the mechanics of using this calendar was needed.  Facebook event updating was also mentioned – and the need for club members to sign up as friends to the csli club site.

Upcoming events:  The main focus was on determining whether there were sites to visit in the near future.  Mentioned were the Federal Reserve, the Ft. Meade cryptological museum and the Newseum in DC.  A tentative decision was made to visit the Newseum on Sunday Oct. 4.  This has become a confirmed date!

Finally, there was some discussion about the next club meeting.  A tentative decision to meet again on Friday Oct. 9 again at 2 p.m. was made.
