Name: Center for the Study of Local Issues Student Club 

Purpose:  The purpose of the club is to:

(1) Provide input and participate in the development and administration of CSLI’s semi-annual surveys;

(2) Provide students opportunities for better understanding the operations of CSLI;

(3) Allow students to meet with CSLI clients and observe interactions between CSLI and its clients;

(4) Allow students to attend and participate in CSLI speaking engagements;

(5) Promote better student understanding of applied social science research;

(6) Provide an opportunity for students to attend meetings of the CSLI Advisory Board;

(7) Promote student participation in organizing and conducting candidates’ forums;

(8) Provide an opportunity for students to meet others with similar interests in social
science, public policy, public opinion, politics, law or statistics;

(9) Encourage student to devise and coordinate activities that enhance their civic awareness and engagement.

Article III: Membership

 Membership is open to any currently enrolled student at Anne Arundel Community College. 

 Article IV: Officers

 The officers of this club shall be a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Activities Coordinator.  Together, they shall be considered an Executive Board.

The President presides at all meetings, appoints committee chairpersons and serves as liaison to the Study Life office.  In consultation with the faculty advisor and activities coordinator, the President plans the agenda for each meeting.

The Vice President assumes the duties of the President in his/her absence and represents the club at the Student Association Advisory Council meetings.

The Secretary takes minutes at meetings, prepares agendas, keeps a list of member’s names, addresses and other contact information,

 Treasurer keeps records of financial transactions, and follows college financial policies and procedures.

 The Activities Coordinator in cooperation with the Executive Board and CSLI is responsible for ensuring the planning, facilitation and publicizing of all club activities. 

 Article V: Elections

Elections of officers will take place at the second general meeting of the fall semester.  Officers will be elected by a majority vote of the members.  The term of office will be the academic year.  Students running for office must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.

 Article VI: Meetings

 The CSLI Student Advisory Club will hold a general membership meeting within the first two weeks of the fall semester, and will meet no less than once every four weeks during the academic year.  The Executive Board will meet monthly as needed.

 Article VII: Faculty Advisor

The director of the Center for the Study of Local Issues shall be the faculty advisor of this club.  The duties of the advisor are to attend club meetings and provide assistance and guidance to the club as desired, requested or as he/she deems appropriate.  The advisor serves as a resource and is responsible for organizational adherence to all college policies and also serves as a liaison with the Office of Student Life.

 Article VIII: Amendments

Amendments to this Constitution must be approved by a 2/3 majority vote of the organization’s membership.  Amendments must be approved by the Student Association Advisory Council.

 Article IX: Ratification

This constitution shall be considered adopted when it has received a majority vote of approval from the Student Association Executive Board and Advisory Council.
