Internships and Careers
The CSLI Student Club members with an interest in public
opinion research or local-oriented public policy may have the opportunity to
participate in internships with local employers or with CSLI itself. Examples:
- CSLI Student Internships are occasionally offered depending on
budgetary conditions. Inquiries should be directed to the CSLI director.
- OpinionWorks
is a survey company in Annapolis that has expressed an interest in using
interns. Interested students should discuss such opportunities with the
CSLI director. You can see the internship description
here.
- Maryland State Archives periodically accepting applications
for its summer internship program. These are open to high school and
undergraduate college students attending Maryland schools. These are
PAID internships which include experience and training in archival records
management, digital imaging and historical research methods. This is a
10 week program which runs from June 7 to August 15. Applications are
due by March 31, with applicants notified of decisions by April 21.
Service credit internships (unpaid) are also available throughout the school
year. See http://mdsa.net/msa/educ/interns/html/intern06.html
Long-term careers in survey analysis are promising.
Shortages of trained personnel are frequent. The Gallup Corporation, a
major polling agency, has gone so far as to offer full scholarships for those
willing to undertake their Master's degree training in a special program on
survey analysis and methodology at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
Interested students should discuss such opportunities with the CSLI director.
