Candidate Forums

Each couple of years there is an election at the local, state or national levels.  Students with an interest in the political process and curious about candidates may want to assist the Center for the Study of Local Issues in setting up candidate forums.  Such participation is an excellent way of learning more about the mechanics of organizing such an event including candidate contacts, facilities coordination, media contacts, and question preparation.

The Center for the Study of Local Issues will organize at least two candidate forums in the fall 2006 semester: a forum in which County Executive and County Council candidates running for the primary election are brought together; and a forum in which the surviving candidates for these offices are brought together for the general election.

It is possible that other forums might be organized, such as a debate among candidates running for Governor or US Senate.  Interested students should discuss CSLI planning and student participation opportunities with the CSLI director.
