Agenda for Spring (updated 4-25-08)
We can certainly add to the list as more activities are known and/or to schedule club organizational meetings. Some of you are researching certain activities that may be added to this list. Some of the dates are more tentative than others. Some of these will require a student financial contribution (of undetermined size); we will understand our financial picture better once we see whether the Student Association is willing to give us more money. I would appreciate a schedule of times during the week when school or work makes you unavailable so that we can help plan events.
FALL, 2007 News
Oct 2, 2007: * A list of possible field trips and activities for the year was devised at an early planning meeting (Sept 28). This list includes the items below. An email request was made that club members investigate the practicality of each of these proposed activities - when, what, how much, etc. Coordinate with Dr. Nataf if you choose an area to investigate: *Meetings in Annapolis with local/state gov't officials *Baltimore Council of Foreign Affairs *Day trip to D.C. (museums, monuments?) *VA legislature visit *Attending events at policy think-tanks (American Enterprise, Brookings) *Attending events (speeches?) at other universities (UMCP, Georgetown, American, George Washington) *Senate/House of Reps visit: (The Senate and Capitol are open 9:00a.m.-4:30p.m., Monday-Saturday). *Supreme Court visit: (Open 9:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday. Also, lectures in the Courtroom are typically given every hour on the half-hour, on days that the Court is not sitting, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding at 3:30 p.m.) *Organizing a candidate forum for local congressional races *Meetings with lobbyists - possible lunch in Annapolis or Baltimore *Focus group on presidential primary candidates *New York; U.N. Depending on what we decide to do, we can/will ask for a supplemental budget increase. In addition, I will e sending you a copy of the proposed draft survey for spring. If you can think of any topics of special interest to students, please let me know. You are welcome to visit the CSLI Web site http://www2.aacc.edu/csli to examine previous surveys (c) Republican and Democratic Party Dinners: It was suggested that these might be a desirable event to attend. Issues remained about the timing and cost. Nataf will research and get back to you. (d) Field trip to Congress with Paul Sarbanes (if he is available) (e) Field trip to visit the Liberty Bell and associated historical sites in Philadelphia near the end of the semester or afterwards? (f) Lunch meetings with politicians and other important people. (g) Other trips to hear Presidential candidates or perhaps a 'think tank' presentation such as with the Council of Foreign Affairs.
