We can certainly add to the list as more activities are known and/or to schedule club organizational meetings.  Some of you are researching certain activities that may be added to this list. Some of the dates are more tentative than others.  Some of these will require a student financial contribution (of undetermined size); we will understand our financial picture better once we see whether the Student Association is willing to give us more money.

I would appreciate a schedule of times during the week when school or work makes you unavailable so that we can help plan events.

FALL, 2007 News

Dec 2, 2007: * Add to the list of possible field trips an expedition to New Hampshire to witness the 'first in the country' presidential primary elections.  Currently this is being planned as a four day/three night trip starting on Sunday Jan 6 and ending Wednesday Jan 9.  The most likely scenario is that the group would fly from BWI using Southwest to Manchester.  We would then stay at a hotel close to Concord, the state's capital.  We would try to attend as many campaign events as possible, basing our attendance on students' interest and event timing/accessibility.  The club could provide a partial subsidy but the total cost will run beteen $325 to $500 depending on the exact cost of hotels and airfare (plus other per diem costs).  Depending upon the number of students going, the club might be able to provide $100 to $150 in subsidy.   If you have any interest, please email Dr. Nataf ASAP - ddnataf@aacc.edu

Optional Club events: UMBC Oct 29, an evening discusssion about federal budget issues - deficits, social security, with a prestigeous panel.  See http://www.umbc.edu/concord for details.

Oct 2, 2007:

* A list of possible field trips and activities for the year was devised at an early planning meeting (Sept 28).  This list includes the items below.  An email request was made that club members investigate the practicality of each of these proposed activities - when, what, how much, etc.  Coordinate with Dr. Nataf if you choose an area to investigate:

*Meetings in Annapolis with local/state gov't officials

*Baltimore Council of Foreign Affairs

*Day trip to D.C. (museums, monuments?)

*VA legislature visit

*Attending events at policy think-tanks (American Enterprise, Brookings)

*Attending events (speeches?) at other universities (UMCP, Georgetown, American, George Washington)

*Senate/House of Reps visit: (The Senate and Capitol are open 9:00a.m.-4:30p.m., Monday-Saturday).

*Supreme Court visit: (Open 9:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday. Also, lectures in the Courtroom are typically given every hour on the half-hour, on days that the Court is not sitting, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding at 3:30 p.m.)

*Organizing a candidate forum for local congressional races

*Meetings with lobbyists - possible lunch in Annapolis or Baltimore

*Focus group on presidential primary candidates

*New York; U.N. General Assembly visit (spring 2008?)

Sept 12, 2007:

*New officers for the CSLI club were chosen Sept 12.  Neil Murphy is President, Amanda Ambrose VP, Ryan Ramos Treasurer and Sarah Storch Secretary.
